Springfield Mental Health Support Group

Established by volunteers who have seen the need for an information and support base for people within the community who may be suffering from stress, depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and any of the other mental health issues that are now prevelant in communities.

We invite anyone who has, or is living with, a mental illness to come and talk to us in a safe, supportive, non judgemental and non clinical setting, where privacy and confidentiality is guaranteed. Talk to others who have lived with a mental health issue, or who are caring for someone in that situation. We encourage people to take that first and usually, most difficult step towards resolvingsome or all of the issues they are faced with.

Springfield Mantal Health Support Group is also developing a comprehensive data base of local services for mental health and support services. It will have current information on psychiatrists, psychologists, clinics, general practitioners, counsellors, out patient centres, emergency contacts, and local associations concentrating on specific mental health illnesses, i.e. Bipolar, Schizophrenia etc. Most listed services will indicate whether the practice is a full cost or bulk billed facility.

The group soon be starting informative seminars are workshops for the whole community as a means of education people about specific menatl health issues, breaking down the social sigmas attached to mental health and how we can develop into a menatlly healthy community by simply supporting each other.

We are backed by University of Southern Queensland, Springfield Campus, Delfin Lend Lease Springfield, Ipswich City Council through David Morrison, Division 1 Councilor, local GP's and churches and allied health services who are all willing to contribute support , information or services.
