Amnesty International Queer Right's Network
The mission of the Amnesty International queer rights Network is to increase awareness of and mobilise action around human rights issues that face queer people locally, nationally and globally.
Around the world, the human rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI) people are violated daily. People are beaten, imprisoned, and killed by their own governments simply because of their sexual identification and orientation.
Those suspected of being LGBTQI are routinely the victims of harassment, discrimination, and violence. Many of those who speak up for LGBTQI rights - regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity - are themselves persecuted.
In over 40 countries, Amnesty activists are working to defend the human rights of LGBTQI people around the world. Amnesty's grassroots-based membership networks seek to:
- Promote human rights standards (internationally and locally)
- Raise public awareness about human rights abuses based on sexual orientation and gender identity
- Mobilise people to take action
- Work with diverse local groups to develop inclusive responses to human rights abuses facing the LGBTQI community
